South Asian dance recognized at Dora Awards

The Dora Mavor Moore Awards (aka the Dora Awards) are presented annually by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts, honouring theatre, dance, and opera productions in Toronto. At this year’s 34th annual Dora Awards, Aakash Odedra won “Outstanding Male Performance” for Sampradaya Dance Creations’ production of Alchemy, presented as part of the NextSteps 2012-13 dance season at Harbourfront Centre.

In the Dance Division, Alchemy also received a Dora Award nomination for Outstanding Lighting Design (Arun Srinivasan, Michael Hulls and Willy Cessa). Nova Dance’s Akshongay was nominated in 4 categories: Outstanding New Choreography (Bhattacharya/Laberge-Côté), Ensemble Performance (Bhattacharya/Laberge-Côté), Lighting Design (Marc Parent) and Sound Design/Composition (Phil Strong).

Congratulations to all the Dora nominees and winners for their excellent work in the performing arts!
